ABOUT
How apt that Gotas de Mar, meaning Drops of the Ocean, is located on the misty Atlantic Spanish terroir. The vines are located in the region of Rías Baixas, northwest Spain, close to the Portuguese border. The vines thrive in this lush corridor, kept cooler by their vicinity to the Atlantic coast.
The grapes in this region are some of the best examples of Albariño, growing in granite soils, and hand-picked from 15-25-year-old vines. Other vines in the area use the Pergola high trellising, but at Gotas de Mar the vines are trained using the vertically-shoot positioned (VSP) system.
In the winery, the whole bunch is pressed, and fermentation occurs for 20 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine is left to age on its lees for 6 months with little interference.
