TENUTA DEMAIO - NERO DI TROIA 2019

TASTING NOTES

This red wine from Puglia, Italy is fresh and alive! An interesting nose with a floral quality, and a little spice. It's a delicious, Grenache-like red with dark berries on the mouth. Biodynamic,

ABOUT

I am Antonio Demaio and I introduce you to my estate.

My link with agriculture is innate: my grandfather Domenico at the beginning of the twentieth century grew olive trees in Rignano Garganico a small mountain village located in Puglia, in the province of Foggia. After moving to San Severo in the Tavoliere delle Puglie he continued the family business and taught his son-my father- the love for the olive tree and the vine. Since I was a child I started pruning olive trees and vineyards harvesting their fruits and making wine from our grapes. Ours was an underground cellar a type of wine cellar of which San Severo was rich in those years. In the 70’s the advent of Cooperatives and the idea that ” the union is the force” led me to suspend the transformation activity to devote myself mainly to agriculture. In those years I first became a professor of Business Administration and then a School Manager at ITC SAN SEVERO without ever abandoning my first passion: I concentrated all my physical and economic energies to grow the company dreaming of one day starting again to produce wine and oil as when I was a child.

So in 2010 I started the renovation of an old farm in the current cellar and since 2013 with the help of my son-in-law Giovanni-also a wine lover- we started the transformation of the first grapes following both in the countyside and in the cellar the organic and  traditional method. In the vineyard we èractice as little phytosanitary intervention as possible, in the cellar spontaneous fermentation, no clarification or filtration as my father taught me and as I in turn teach my sons.
