FATTORIA NICODEMI - LE MURATE MONTEPULCIANO D’ABRUZZO COLLINE TERAMANE DOCG 2019

TASTING NOTES

This medium to full-bodied red comes from a small family-owned vineyard in Abruzzo. The eyes are greeted by a dark ruby red, a nose of dark cherries; sour cherry and blackcurrant. On the palate, the dark berries continue, with velvety tannins and notes of sweet tobacco. A finish of unique florals of rose petals and a touch of black pepper.

ABOUT

The Fattoria Nicodemi winery was taken over in 2000 by brother and sister Alessandro and Elena. Continuing the family business created with the dowry of from their grandmother, and embraced by their grandfather Ezio and later father Bruno, who dreamed of turning it into a modern winery in the 1970s.

“Fortunately, our job means we’re eternally dissatisfied. So every year we seek the perfect vintage, like surfers and waves.”

The vines are at 300 metres in altitude, is aspected to the southeast and cover 30 hectares of a single plot. Mount Gran Sasso watches of the vines, and the ocean is only 10 km away, resulting in cool breezes in the summer. The soil is rich in clay and limestone, and temperatures and ventilation are excellent for ripening fruit.

The Fattoria Nicodemi winery has a deep respect for their land, with biodiversity considered essential to the winery with only organic practices, no chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers used. Only native varieties of Montepulciano and Trebbiano are grown. The rows and surrounds are filled with wild grasses, oxygenating and enriching the soil. When the time comes, new vineyards are planted with a mass selection taken from their own heirloom vines. Power for the winery comes from solar power.

“If you let yourself be guided by Nature, wine becomes the mirror of the land and of the soul of its maker. The fundamental truth is that wine is – indeed must be – the expression of the land, vine and culture.” Fattoria Nicodemi Winery
