LA TOGATA - BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2013

TASTING NOTES

This Brunello from Tuscany, in central Italy, in the hills of Montalcino where the soil is Tuffaceous clay. The vines are grown at different heights to maximise the sun until sunset and are subject to a double thinning of bunches. Harvest is at the end of September, where traditional techniques are still followed. Ageing 36 months in Slavonian Oak Barrels, followed by bottle aging of 12 months.

The wine is garnet red, bold, rich and full-bodied. Intense red and black fruit assertively grace the nose and palate. Full-bodied, structured, and ages beautifully. A prize for any collector.

ABOUT

Tuscany, the home of Brunello Wine. In the south of the province of Siena, a fairytale town of Montalcino, the city of Brunello Wine. Atop a hill is a fully fortified medieval castle, surrounded by the beautiful World Heritage Site Val d'Orcia Natural Park. Visitors are attracted by the rolling hills adorned by cypress trees, the olive groves, the winding roads, sunflowers, ancient oak trees, and of course the wineries.

The town of Montalcino has been famed for its red wines since the 15th century. In 1888, Ferruccio Biondi Santi developed the formula for the Brunello, whereby the Chianti recipe was adjusted to remove other grape varieties such as Canaiolo and Colorino and only use the Sangiovese.

In the South of Montalcino is the small family winery of Togata, owned by the Angel family, a property of women, Stephania, Vanessa, Azzurra and master of wine, Jeanneth Angel. The Head of the cellar is Mr Alberto Angel.

Togata produces wines with unique characteristics in the body, elegance and fragrance. “The goal is not to produce a wine like many, but a wine that can be appreciated and especially where you can feel all the love and passion that this small Winery puts every day in producing it.” The Angel Family.
