DOMAINE DU PETIT PÉROU - MORGON 'COTE DU PY' 2019

TASTING NOTES

Our Morgon Côte du Py comes from plots rich in schists and decomposed granites, growing at an altitude of 300 metres and aged for 18 months in old oak casks to give our wine roundness. It will delight you with its deep garnet colour and its power on the palate, accompanies by velvety tannins. The ripe red stone fruits like cherry will wake up your tastebuds. Velvety tannins, ripe stone fruits like black cherry, chocolate notes, long and elegant finish.

Decant, or open prior to drinking.

ABOUT

The world of wine is a small place. Expansive in geography but very compact when it comes to the relationships and people within it. If the entire population is separated by six degrees of separation, the wine community might be separated by three. This much is true at least for Domaine du Petit Pérou from Morgon, Beaujolais. Hugo Thevenet is a close buddy of Marin Fumey of Jura’s Fumey Chatelain, who did vintage in Australia alongside Sven Joschke. Three degrees, see? While it’s great to work in these tight circles even more important are the stories these wines tell and the unquestionable deliciousness contained within the bottles, and this fifth- generation family estate spanning 16ha across Morgon and Brouilly have both in spades.

Under the watch of Laurent (4th generation) and Hugo (5th generation) their estate wines are classic, expressive Beaujolais made very much by hand in the family’s little cellar. The wonderful stories on each of their cuvees, not to mention the different personalities of each era of Thevenet that shaped what Petit Pérou is today, make these juicy Gamays a very welcome addition to our portfolio.
